Football: 10-man BT beat Waterhouse

Boys' Town's leading goal scorer, Renae Lloyd, notched his seventh goal of the 2010/2011 Digicel Premier League season to lead his team to a hard fought 2-1 win over Waterhouse in their encounter yesterday at Collie Smith Drive.

The Red Brigade captain, Michael Campbell, netted his team's other goal from the penalty spot in the 34th minute, while Weston Forrest (39th) scored for Waterhouse.

The win pushed second place Boys' Town to 52 points in the 12-team standings, seven points below leaders Tivoli while Waterhouse remain fifth on 44 points.

Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town, is looking for his team to make a determined effort to catch the leaders.

Mathematical chance

"From there is a mathematical chance we are going to give it 100 per cent and we are going to play until the end of the season," Price pointed out. "Anything can happen in the eight games left, we have to just take care of business and hope that things outside of our control work in our favour," he added.

Boys' Town, who ended the match with 10 players following the ejection of Daemon Benjamin in the 66th minute after committing his second bookable offence, took a deserved lead in the 34th minute. Lloyd was brought down in the area by Akeem Thenstead resulting in a penalty, which Campbell easily dispatched.

It however took a mere five minutes for Waterhouse to find an equaliser courtesy of a Forrest header.

Boys' Town emerged flat for the second half, which allowed Waterhouse to take control of the game. The home team was not to be denied however, and stepped up their game, which lead to them regaining the lead in the 74th minute when Lloyd rose to expertly head home a Xavian Virgo free kick.

Spectacular save

Waterhouse were denied a share of the points in stoppage time as Boys' Town's custodian, Philmore Crumbie, pulled off a spectacular point-blank save to thwart 82nd minute substitute Adrian King.

Waterhouse's coach, Baris Johnson, was left disgusted with his team's performance after having gained a man advantage.

"A player up, we should have taken advantage of that in terms of getting one extra player into attack, but I think it was just a lacklustre performance and it is sad and it doesn't speak well for football in the country," Johnson expressed.
