The hottest topics on the cocktail circuit

1. For many it is clear that the writing has been on the wall for some time now - The Destination is not what it used to be, so now one of the leading players is no longer gung-ho about doing business here, and the more bureaucracy and stumbling blocks he is faced with, he simply reduces his exposure here. Sadly, those in charge have not got it, so Jamaica's loss, in jobs and guests, is the region's gain.

2. Concern is mounting about the use of the Special Fund, as the story doing the rounds is that funds were used recently to acquire a 'great house'. Those closest to the situation are questioning the use of the funds for this acquisition, citing not only the inappropriateness of the expenditure in relation to its mandate, but also the relationship between the vendor and the purchaser.

3. Notice after all the talk of a change in the arrangement of the Pyrex bowls in the breakfront, still no changes? Some say it's because the one proposing the changes was advised that the only change those with the power and clout were prepared to accept was a timetable for his departure before the next big date!

4. Civil society is on the side of the new investigative body. They see no reason for the police to be treated any differently from civilians when they are accused of any crime, if the circumstances are similar to those of the general population against whom charges are preferred daily.

5. Opinion of the Week: "Some went in the enquiry as legends! Some were legends in their own minds! Some others merely pontificating windbags, being forced to face themselves in the glare of the camera, and they are looking a lot like the emperor in his new clothes."

6. For all the talk about how well things are going, liquor is the only thing experiencing a boom in sales these days as people seek to drown their woes, as not only are more people losing their homes, in one case it was so bad, the helper has not been paid for over three weeks now, and the 'boss' is now suggesting to friends that they can use her services a few days out of the week.
