Police make huge drug bust near Lao border
BANGKOK (AP):
Thai police have made one of their biggest seizures in years of amphetamines in the country's north near the Lao border, yesterday.
A police statement said officers in Phitsanulok province, acting on information from a previous operation, interrupted the loading of drugs on to trucks overnight. Seven or eight suspects fled during the raid, leaving four bags with 986,000 methamphetamine pills and more than 100 pounds (48 kilograms) of crystallised methamphetamine.
Police found one of the trucks abandoned nearby with more than 1,630,000 pills and 120 pounds (54 kilograms) of crystal meth, also known as Ice.
An additional 24,000 pills and four pounds (two kilograms) of Ice was seized later yesterday morning. No suspects were arrested. No value was given for the haul.
