A Salvadoran court has sentenced 10 gang members and a police officer to serve from four to 30 years in prison in the killing of a French film-maker who made a documentary about a gang in the Central American country.
The court sentenced José Melara of the Mara 18 gang to 30 years in prison for ordering the September 2 killing of Christian Poveda. Two other gang members were sentenced to 20 years, one for shooting Poveda and another for acting as a lookout.
The sentences were announced late Wednesday, along with those of seven other gang members who were sentenced to four years in prison for covering up the crime.
