Two-day ban for Nelson

Top-line jockey Dane Nelson has been slapped with a two-day suspension by the stewards for careless riding aboard disqualified winner PRINCE OF ARABIA in the fourth race on Saturday, February 26.

Nelson was penalised for causing interference to the favourite SILENT IMAGE, and also APPELANT in the last 100 metres, resulting in the disqualification of his mount. PRINCE OF ARABIA was demoted to fourth, behind SILENT IMAGE, who subsequently won on the following Wednesday. Nelson's suspension takes effect on Saturday, March 19.

Also suspended at Tuesday's hearing at the Winchester Road offices of the Jamaica Racing Commission were apprentices Aaron Chatrie and Jevvanne Erwin.

Chatrie, whose recent five-day suspension for foul riding was slashed to three days by the stewards on appeal, picked up a day for careless riding aboard BALLAK in the second race on Saturday, February 19, causing interference to highly fancied MUMBAI MAESTRO, who finished second, at the 400-metre point.

Chatrie, who returns from the current three-day suspension tomorrow, has been stood down for the March 19 race meet.

Erwin, who rode THE BEST MAN in the fourth race on Wednesday, March 2, was slapped with a two-day suspension for repeated interference to the runner-up REGGAE PRINCESS up the lane in the race won by THE GUMMER. His suspension starts tomorrow.
