A taste of Chilean music - The Embassy of Chile presents Claudio Recabarren in concert
Come this Thursday, music will fill the air of the University Chapel, University of The West Indies, when Claudio Recabarren, famed Chilean neo-classical composer and pianist takes centerstage in a free concert being presented by the Embassy of Chile.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Recabarren's repertoire will include Fifth Dimension, You Rise Mysteriously, Street Tram from Space, Arcturus, Far From Orion, Cosmic Light, Children of the Sun, and Spanish Games.
Chile's ambassador to Jamaica, Alfredo García, said that Recabarren's style of music will appeal to Jamaicans and he hopes that a large audience will be present at the concert. He invites all to come out and enjoy the night's festivities.
"It's a good opportunity for the people of Jamaica to experience Chilean music and culture," said Garcia.
Recabarren has travelled extensively, and the influences of musical genres such as jazz, Latin fusion, rock, Spain's flamenco, and the pre-Colombian tribal rhythms of Chile can be heard through his music.
He started playing the piano as a result of the influence of his father, Moises, who was also a pianist in the 1950s in Chile.
Recabarren studied at the National Conservatory of Music of the University of Chile under the tutelage of Rene Reyes.
He subsequently travelled to the United States and studied at the Golden West College in California before returning to Chile and establishing a recording studio.
Running, his first CD recorded in Chile, was successful, according to its sales and reviews.
