Cavalier retain Super League title

Defending champions Cavalier retained their Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Claro Super League title by a one-goal difference over August Town, as both teams ended the season on 50 points each on yesterday's final day of the competition.
The David Laylor-coached Cavalier thrashed Rae Town 3-0 at Breezy Castle while August Town hammered Barbican 5-0 at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl.
Cavalier, who started the day with a two-goal cushion over August Town, finished the season with a goal difference of 31 while August Town had a plus 30.
Laylor said he was very delighted with his team's performance because they have to fight really hard to get the required goals to win the match and take the title.
"I am feeling really good," said Laylor. "I think that we deserved to win this trophy because we really played well throughout the season and the players showed a lot of determination and dedication to win it."
'An ugly win'
Commenting on his team's performance against Rae Town, Laylor said: "It was a ugly win because we created a lot of chances in the first half but we failed to put them away and so we were a bit frustrated knowing that it would have come down to goal difference."
Laylor continued: "We made few changes in the second half because we brought on Loxley Thompson and it paid off for us because he netted two crucial goals."
Cavalier will now advance to the Jamaica Football Federation's Confederation four-team play-offs from which two teams gain promotion to the Premier League next season.
Thompson scored his goals in the 67th and 90th minutes. Captain Donovan Alvaranga clinched the title for Cavalier when he also netted in the 90th minute.
At the UWI Bowl, August Town were led to their victory, courtesy of a hat-trick from Nicholas Smith (37th, 77th and 90th) and a double from Omari Edwards (66th and 90th).
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Bull Bay (18) and Real Mona (20) were both demoted to the Major League.
