Security guard commits suicide
Free Hill, St Mary:
The day was marred with sadness for family and friends of 32-year-old Gary Stephens who hanged himself on an orange tree at the front of his house in Free Hill, St Mary on the morning of March 14.
Stephens' body was discovered by his mother Denise Stephens, who was "dozing" off when she heard a loud snap outside. Upon investigating, she discovered her son with a white belt around his neck and a freshly broken branch of the orange tree on the ground.
She checked his vitals but there was none. Family members and friends were alerted and he was taken to the Port Maria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Gary was an employee of a security company in Ocho Rios, St Ann. Just before he hanged himself, he was heard speaking of selling his BlackBerry phone and getting a new number.
Sombre family members told The Gleaner that he was an introvert and shared nothing with them.
In the hours before his death, Stephens sent text messages to friends telling them goodbye.
