Big Tree, Small Axe ready for the stage

Dennis Titus announces his return to Jamaican theatre with his most stirring dramatic comedy yet, Big Tree, Small Axe, opening at the Pantry Playhouse, Friday, April 8.
The cast of Big Tree, Small Axe includes Volier Johnson, Deon Silvera, Dennis Titus, Lakeisha Ellison, and Gracia Thompson.
The play will run from Wednesdays to Fridays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m.
Based on a riveting true story, Big Tree, Small Axe portrays a woman's struggle to come to terms with her spouse's manipulative web of deceit and her own deeply hidden childhood secret.
Everything comes tumbling down when she removes her veil of naiveté, exposing her new-found strength and self-worth.
Filled with fun and laughter, the play leaves you thoroughly entertained while its sobering doses of reality reflect on themes such as infidelity, abuse, and love.
The play is written and directed by Showtime Productions CEO Dennis Titus.
Multifaceted career
Originally from Portland, Jamaica, Titus' multifaceted career in theatre, television, and film spans over 20 plays and includes extensive work in the United Kingdom and the United States over the last 10 years.
He is well known for his portrayal of Tony in Ginger Knight's play Higglers, and as writer of Coming to England, a play currently being considered by BBC as a possible mini-series.
Titus still draws inspiration from his very early yet memorable opportunity of working alongside Denzel Washington in the Mighty Quinn, an experience which helped mold him into a proud, creative professional insisting on the highest quality of work.
When asked how he defines his latest piece, Titus explains: "It is everything but predictable. The humour entertains you, but the story keeps you closely connected with the characters."
Titus has a profound appreciation for the Jamaican theatre audience, who he describes as demanding in their search for high entertainment in every play from start to finish. And Big Tree, Small Axe is sure to deliver just that. It is a must-see!
