Wizards top Selassie in close encounter

Defending champions Tivoli Wizards, led by Anthony Farquharson's game-high 22 points, recorded an exciting 63-58 victory over Selassie Gardens in the Flow National Basketball League on Monday night at the National Stadium courts.

The victory meant that the Wizards finished the group stage atop the standings with 21 points, which includes 10 wins and one loss. On the other hand, Selassie Gardens, who have a game in hand, are in 10th place on 12 points from four wins and six defeats.

Former champions Urban Knights, who have already completed their preliminary fixtures, are second in the table with 19 points, having recorded eight wins and three defeats

Majesty Legends, who have a game in hand, are third with 17 points, after winning seven and losing three matches.

In the other game on Monday night's double-header, Blazing Panthers, joint 10th with 14 points, beat bottom-place Braves Chiefs (12) 67-58.

Lynford Brown led the way for the Panthers with 21 points, eight assists and six steals.

The Panthers led 34-29 at half-time and 46-45 at the end of the third period. Brown received solid support from Anthony White, who contributed 17 points and 16 rebounds, and Dushane White, with 11 points.

Jermaine Davis (16 points), Howard Edwards (12 points, 17 rebounds) and Ricardo Greaves (11 points), were the main scorers for the Chiefs.

The Wizards dominated the game from the opening whistle as they led 29-22 at half-time.

Edward 'Ted' Marshall-coached Wizards outscored their opponents 20-19 to increase their advantage to 49-41 at the end of the third quarter.

Farquharson received support support from Kirk Ferguson, who scored nine points.

Kemar Cohen (15 points) and Ackeem (15 points, eight rebounds) and David Harrison (10 points, 11 assists) were the main contributors for Selassie Gardens.
