Issue:Transforming politics - Politicians leeching Jamaica
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Finally, an entity in Jamaica with power and influence, namely, The Gleaner, in its April 3 edition, has stated, unequivocally, what I think most Jamaicans have known all along: that both our political parties have failed Jamaica.
The Sunday Gleaner, in its editorial, has presented a better case than I could, showing "our political parties have not been good at the pursuit of the interests of the Jamaican people".
Surely the answer to one simple question can provide proof that our politicians have done well for themselves rather than for Jamaica.
The question to all politicians through the years is: How much were you worth (total assets) when you became a member of parliament, and how much were you worth at the end of your term or terms?
How is it possible for MPs to become wealthy on what is a relatively small remuneration for what they do?
How many average Jamaicans have become rich or even remained as they were by the end of an election cycle?
I am, etc.,
