Toyota Jamaica took the new-car dealer top honours in the National Commercial Bank's (NCB) Auto Dealers Awards Ceremony at the Terra Nova Hotel, St Andrew, last Tuesday evening. Crichton Automotives Limited secured the top slot in the used-car segment.

The Spanish Town Road-based Toyota dealership also made a clean sweep of the new-car sales representative category for the period 2009-2010, walking away with the top three awards.

"This is a great achievement for us," said John Connell, managing director of Toyota Jamaica. "This goes to show Toyota Jamaica has the best people in the industry."

Toyota's sales and marketing manager, Howard Foster, also had high praises for his team.

"We have a team which is very dedicated to our customer's satisfaction. We also work very closely with the banks to meet the needs of our customers."

The appreciation ceremony, hosted by NCB, was planned to laud and recognise both new- and used-car dealers which generated the most business for the institution over the year 2009-2010.

Speaking at the function, NCB's group managing director, Patrick Hylton, said the event was intended to acknowledge, celebrate and show appreciation to the bank's partners involved in the island's auto industry.

Important role

"This is a very important industry to us, and auto loans are a significant portion of our bank's retail loan portfolio. Aside from creating employment, the industry has assisted in plugging the shortfall in the public- transportation sector," he said.

"As an organisation, NCB has been doing well in difficult times and we want to partner with you (the dealers) so that you can do well too."

Kirk Crichton, managing director of Crichton Automotives Limited, said his employees had put in the work to allow his company to be recognised in this way.

"The staff has worked very hard and we are happy that NCB has recognised the benefits of companies like ours which have helped the industry in managing the global recession," Crichton said.
