International cultural festival coming in October
The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture will be collaborating with the Jamaica Consular Corps to stage a two-day international cultural festival in Jamaica in October 2011.
The decision came out of discussions between Olivia Grange, minister of youth, sports and culture, and members of the Jamaica Consular Corps, led by its president, Arnold Foote.
According to Foote, Grange was the first minister anywhere in the world to agree to government involvement in the festival which is customarily held by the Consular Corps on its own.
Grange offered to assist with arrangements for the festival which is planned for Emancipation Park on October 14 and 15, and which she said "would provide Jamaicans with the opportunity to experience the cultures of the various countries participating in the festival.
"The Ministry is excited to be associated with an international cultural festival and having it in Heritage Month is special. It will add to our own celebration of our people, our heritage and our culture," Grange said.
