Tivoli, Jamalco clash

A mouth-watering showdown is expected when defending champions Tivoli Gardens face archrivals Jamalco in today's feature match of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super League competition at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 7 p.m.

In the day's other games, that will be played simultaneously, early leaders Waulgrovians will go in search of their fourth consecutive win when they oppose the University of the West Indies B.

The Marvette Anderson-coached Waulgrovians have recorded three consecutive wins so far and are firm favourites to get the better of their opponents, following an exciting 55-54 win over Jamalco in their last game.

Windalco will tackle Mico in another match.

Tivoli will enter today's game oozing confidence, after their impressive 46-34 victory over Windalco in their last outing.

However, with only the top two teams guaranteed a place in this year's final, both will be going all out to secure the crucial victory.

The Sylvester Campbell-coached Tivoli's line-up will include national goal shooter Jodian Ffrench-Kentish and former national players - goal shooter Peter-Gaye Thomas and goal defence Oberon Pitterson.

Jamalco will be hoping to bounce back from their heartbreaking loss to Waulgrovians last weekend, and Wayne Shaw, manager of the Clarendon-based Jamalco, is confident of their chances.

"We have to win the game because only the top teams will qualify for the final and so we can't afford to lose any more games," said Shaw, whose team has so far recorded one win in two games.

"We are very confident that we can beat them because we have been playing well this season, and once my girls go out and execute our game plan, then we should come out the winners," he said.
