Champs JDF head Richards Memorial field

Defending champions Jamaica Defence Force will look for a third straight hold on the Captain Milton Richards Memorial Trophy, when the competition enters its eighth year on April 30th at the Jamaica Hockey Federation's headquarters at Mona.

The format of this year's competition will remain the same for the six-a-side event, which will be played in the divisions ladies', men's and mixed veterans', over two days.

In the men's division, the army men have been reluctant to part with the crown they won for the first time three years ago when they beat Raiders United, and will be keen on winning yet again.

In the women's division, St Andrew will be looking to do the same, while Milton Richards' Invitational will be seeking a second straight title in the mixed veterans' division.

The men's division is expected to be the most competitive, with Lauderhill Strikers from Florida, an international-based team, Circus Circle, Munro College Old Boys, Raiders Wolmer's Edition, G.C. Foster and Raiders United all looking to dethrone the JDF.

In the women's division, Sharpe's and Tropics will challenge St Andrew in a three-team division, while Gray Dogs from Florida will join Phat Thursdayz to battle Milton Richards' Invitational team for the mixed veterans' division title.

Cash prizes will be offered to the winners and runners-up in the ladies' and men's divisions.

Captain Milton Richards was a former member of the JDF's third-battalion regiment, and played for Kingston College Old Boys, UTech and then the JDF.

Richards also represented Jamaica on numerous occasions as a goalkeeper and goalkeeping coach.
