WESTERN BUREAU:
Rudyard Spencer had his guests teary-eyed Sunday evening when he belted the words to Paul Anka's Having My Baby to fiancée Nadine McKay at a baby shower at their Oakridge, Stony Hill, St Andrew, home.
The usually composed, no-nonsense minister of health not only dedicated the words, 'What a lovely way of saying how much you love me', but he danced up a pretty storm, entertaining the many women who turned out for the fun-filled occasion.
With the city of Kingston as a backdrop, the view from the home was a mix of mini-mountains, towering buildings and clouds kissing.
Using the theme of chocolate brown, green and white, the happy couple, who have no interest in the sex of their baby opted for neutral colours.
"I decided I didn't want to know the sex because I really want a boy," admits an excited Nadine McKay. This is the travel consultant's first child, while the man she will marry, Spencer, has fathered four other beautiful children.
His daughters Chanda and Danielle were out celebrating their father's pride and joy, while posing for photographs with their stepmother.
In the meantime, the glowing couple expects their bundle of joy this summer.
Several friends turned out for the historic occasion, including the health minister's Cabinet colleagues, Mike and Dawn Henry, Dr Horace Chang and Dwight Nelson. Others included the affable mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, and wife Marcia, Lloyd Tomlinson, Jimmy Smith, Velmore Lawrence, Councillor Winston Maragh and wife Ruth.
