WESTERN BUREAU:Golfers from near and far converged on the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course on Sunday, April 10, to raise funds for the Spanish-Jamaican Foundation's (SFJ) Real Madrid Foundation Football School.
In collaboration with Michele Rollins' Rose Hall Developments, the group aims to proffer social integration hoping to enhance the lives of several students from depressed communities in the Rose Hall area.
For the country's Spanish Ambassador, Celsa Nuño, her dream is to see the number of children affected by the programme increase from 30 to 45, and eventually 100.
"The School has been mandated to teach, enforce and encourage basic principles of solidarity, respect towards others, unity and teamwork using sport as the medium," said Nuño, who also enjoyed a game of golf, with birthday boy Tristan Alvarado a member of her team.
Ambassador Nuño, SJF's head Betty McKenzie and her assistant, Avalon Arscott have worked assiduously with technical director, Aaron Lawrence, introduced the Spanish language into the children's vocabulary.
"This has been recently incorporated into the School's programme, with the aim of helping to shape their personalities and encourage their overall development," said Lawrence.
A number of corporate entities were out supporting the event, including, Iberostar Resorts, RIU Resorts, Bahia Principe, Clubs & Resorts, Best Dressed Chicken, Bijoux, Calatel, Caribbean Producers, Chukka Caribbean Adventures, Cool Petroleum, Claro, Dolphin Cove, EuroDivisas, Excellence Group, Grand Palladium Resort & Spa, Hospiten, Jablum, MBJ Airports Ltd, Margaritaville, Real Madrid Foundation, Secrets Resorts & Spa and Wisynco Group.
