Nangle breaks backstroke record
Barbados glide to top with golden finishes
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):
Hosts Barbados, behind a strong effort from their 13-to-14 girls, moved to the top of the medal table on Sunday at the Carifta Swimming Championships here.
Zabrina Holder led the way with a double victory that carried her gold medal haul to four, as the Barbadians collected five gold medals on the second day of the championships at the National Aquatic Centre.
Also, Jamaica's Kendese Nangle swam a record 1:06 flat to win the 15-17 girls' 100 backstroke.
Holder took centre stage, following a victory for Sariyah Sherry in the 11-12 girls' 200 metres freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 17.83 seconds in the first event of the evening session.

Holder brought more smiles to Barbadians' faces, when she clocked 2 mins, 10.06 secs to win the 13-14 girls' version ahead of Aruba's Daniella van den Berg (2:11.50) and compatriot Amara Gibbs (2:14.22).
Holder hit peak form when she touched the pads in a record 29.64 seconds, just ahead of The Bahamas' Taryn Smith, with a time of 29.92, in the 50m butterfly. It was the first of seven records that tumbled in the period.
Gibbs returned to give Barbados victory in the 13-14 girls' 100 backstroke, with a time of 1:08.72, ahead of Kristin Julien of Trinidad & Tobago (1:09.96) and Deandre Small of Barbados (1:11.15).
The team of Gibbs, Holder, Small and Inayah Sherry, Sariyah's elder sister, then brought further joy to Barbados, when they won the 13-14 girls 4x100 medley relay, with a record time of 4:40.03.
There were two other medley relay records broken by Aruba's 11-12 boys' team of Tyreke Wernet, Joseph Winterdal, Mikel Schreuders and Edward Mulder with a time of 4:39.86; and T&T's 13-14 boys' team of Jabari Baptiste, Dylan Carter, Jeron O'Brien and Johnathan Gonzales, clocking 4:12.25.
T&T's Joshua Romany also had something about which to write home, when he shattered the 15-17 boys' 200 freestyle record with a time of 1:53.35.
Matthias Bellance of Martinique clocked a record 25.13 to stamp his authority in the 15-17 boys' 50 fly.
