SKOPJE, (AP):

Macedonian police say they have arrested 11 suspected members of an international drug trafficking ring and seized 11 kilograms of heroin.

Interior minister Gordana Jankulovska said on the weekend that the consignment came from Turkey and was headed for western Europe.

The raids, she said, were carried out in cooperation with Interpol.

Jankulovska said the heroin, with an estimated value of €200,000 ($297,000), was found hidden in a car at the border with Greece. Authorities arrested the Bulgarian driver, and another 10 people in Macedonia's capital, Skopje.

The suspects include a former police officer and a prison guard, Jankulovska said.
