Gamble with Burst of Energy

The consistent American 4-y-o colt, BURST OF ENERGY, looks all set to resume winning ways at Caymanas Park today when he steps down in class to contest the 3-y-o and up overnight allowance race over 1600 metres. Post time is 1:20 p.m. and 10 races are scheduled.

Conditioned by leading trainer Gary Subratie, BURST OF ENERGY returns after his brave effort against PRICELESS BEAUTY in the Fontainbleu Trophy (open allowance) over 1500 metres on April 16; and although asked to give weight all around, should prove equal to the task.

Connections have again opted for the services of in-form 2.0kg claiming apprentice, Richard Mairs, to reduce the weight from 57.0 to 55.0kg.

When one recalls some of the horses who have beaten BURST OF ENERGY in five of his six races this season, it becomes all the more evident that he will notch his first win since capturing the CTL Fan Appreciation Day Trophy over 2200 metres on New Year's Day.

Subsequently, BURST OF ENERGY has run some good races in open allowance company, finishing second to the 2009 Superstakes winner, HOMBRE, over 1820 metres on January 15; and also his close third to CLASSY COMPANY in the valuable King's Plate over 1500 metres on February 26.

Last time out he had CLASSY PROSPECT behind in fourth, when finishing three-quarter length third to PRICELESS BEAUTY and RAISE A RUCKUS, respectively in a blanket finish for the Fontainbleu Trophy and with less to do in present company, should prove too good for his 11 opponents.

BURST OF ENERGY has good pace and should track the expected early leaders CLASSIC BEAU and EXCELLENCE before going through leaving the half-mile.

Thereafter it should be smooth sailing as I expect him to lead home the stretch-running VONALMIGHTY, REGAL SENSATION and UNDAUNTED, all fit enough to fight.

Also on the card is the season's first two-year-old race, the Starters' Trophy over 400 metres straight - with a purse of $715,000 - to be contested by 10 youngsters, several of which are fairly well advanced.

The ones most forward in condition are LADY ALISON from the stables of 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny; I'M ALLRIGHT, who is trained by Anthony 'Baba' Nunes, and EXOTIC GOLD from the stables of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta.

Having galloped two furlongs from the gate in 23.3 recently, LADY ALISON, with five-time champion Trevor Simpson aboard, will more than likely start favourite and is given the edge over EXOTIC GOLD with Georgina Sergeon aboard.

I also like COLD GROUND to make amends for his recent near miss by landing the fourth race; PLATINUM VALLEY in the seventh; OUTRAM RIVER in the third; and American bred THERE GOES JUSTIN in the fifth.
