Third World says thank you
- Legendary band hosts three-day free concert
- Puts on charity event for heart surgeries
Third World will be thanking Jamaicans for 38 years of support by hosting a free three-day concert series on the Labour Day weekend.
The concert series, in association with Brownstone Marketing and VicRae Inc,will run from May 21-24 and is dubbed 'The Spirit Lives'.
The concert series has been named from the single The Spirit Lives, one of the tracks on Third World's new album Patriots.
The Reggae Ambassadors will perform their number-one singles in addition to songs from their new album. The performances will be held in Portland, Montego Bay and Portmore.
"Third World is in its 38th year as a band. We could not have lasted this long without the support of our fans, particularly the support of our Jamaican family. For us, it is only fitting that we give back in some capacity and this is one of the many ways we can do so. We have been blessed and we just want to be a blessing to those who have never seen Third World because of costs associated with tickets, etc. So we are looking forward to just jamming in the shade and vibing with the people," explained Cat Coore.
exclusive performance
A day before the free series, Third World will have an exclusive live performance at The Jamaica Pegasus Gardens in Kingston.
The all-inclusive formal event will feature performances by Third World, Tessanne Chin and No-Maddz.
Tickets for that event cost $6,000 per person; the goal of the event is to aid in raising funds to benefit the Jamaica Children's Heart Fund (JCHF).
Third World has been involved with the JCHF for over four years. The organisation provides cost-free open-heart surgery to children in Jamaica whose families cannot afford it.
The organisation comprises a paediatric cardiac surgical team, and an intensive care team from the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital (JDCH), Hollywood, Florida, headed by Dr Richard Perryman, chairman of JCHF, and director of cardiothoracic surgery at the JDCH, along with Dr Gerald Lavandosky, JCHF vice-chairman and JDCH paediatric intensivist. The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is a world-class hospital noted for medical professionals who are uniquely qualified to handle the most complex and critical paediatric open-heart cases.
