Forbes lodges appeal

Former national netball captain Simone Forbes has filed an appeal to the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) disciplinary against her three-month ban from the sport.

The 28-year-old Forbes received the suspension last Friday, after JADCO's disciplinary committee, chaired by Kent Gammon, found her guilty of a doping violation last month.

Forbes returned an adverse analytical finding following an out-of-competition test last month. She tested positive for clomiphene, a drug listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2011 list of banned substances under Section 4 - 'Hormone Antagonists and Modulators'.

Dr Aggrey Irons, who represented Forbes during the two-day hearing, confirmed this on Wednesday. "She has done it and it is her right to do so," said Irons.

However, Irons added that he was not able to say when the hearing will take place and who will be representing Forbes on this occasion.

The other members of Gammon's panel were Olympian Juliet Cuthbert and Dr Peter Charles.

Forbes, a versatile player, is hoping for her suspension to be overturned in order to allow her to compete at this year's World Netball Championships (WNC), which will be in Singapore from July 3-10.

Forbes, who last represented Jamaica in a three-Test series against Trinidad and Tobago in March, is hoping to compete in her third consecutive WNC.
