LIME entertainers shine
Students at the Denham Town Primary, Central Branch All-Age and St Aloysius Primary schools got a very special treat this week when LIME brought special celebrity guests into their classrooms for Read Across Jamaica Day.
Popular songstress Ce'Cile and up-and-coming female vocalists Ishawna and Denyque joined LIME employee volunteers who read to students at local schools to mark the occasion which was observed on Tuesday.
At the Central Branch All-Age School in Kingston, Ce'Cile read several stories to students and also signed autographs and posed for pictures with the youngsters.
"It was a pleasure to join the LIME team today and share with all these young children how important it is to take their education seriously," Ce'Cile said.
"We know that as entertainers young people will listen to us and this is an opportunity to spread a positive message."
At Denham Town Primary in west Kingston, Ishawna had an hourlong interactive session with the students in the class she visited. After reading stories from MacMillan's Reggae Reader Series, the songbird answered questions from the children who were eager to learn about her experiences in the music business.
"I wanted to be a singer from I was a little girl but my mother said I had to get my education first," she told her class.
"So no matter what you want to do in life, it's important for you to stay in school."
Up close and personal
The students at St Aloysius Primary eagerly took advantage of their opportunity to get up close and personal with Denyque. The up-and-coming singer conducted the class like a seasoned professional and gathered the little ones around to read to them when it was story time.
"It was an amazing experience for me because I believe that education is absolutely important for every child's future," Denyque said.
"It was also very uplifting for me personally because I got a chance to give back to the community in a meaningful way."
LIME had more than 100 volunteers including employees, executives and celebrities reading in schools in nine parishes on Read Across Jamaica Day, which is an initiative of the Jamaica Teachers' Association.
LIME also partnered with MacMillan publishers to donate copies of the Reggae Readers Series to all the schools the volunteers visited.
