Meadows, Rivoli in Confed clash

St Catherine teams, Rivoli and Meadows, will clash at the Spanish Town Prison Oval today to decide the 2011 winners of the South Central Confed Super League.

Their 3 p.m. contest, which will also have allocation for extra time and penalties, will be preceded at 1 p.m. by the Confed Under-20 final between Rivoli and De la Vega United.

With no prize-money available as the league failed to attract a corporate sponsor, the main drawcard is the opportunity it provides for the winners. They will contest the upcoming National Premier League play-offs.

Those play-offs begin next Sunday with Seba (Western Confed) and August Town (KSAFA) already confirmed. The Eastern champions will also be decided this weekend.

Today's contest at the Spanish Town Prison Oval should be explosive and close, as in their one-off meeting earlier this year it ended 1-1. The members of the two coaching contingents are well known, with Meadows' Anthony Thompson, a former coach at Rivoli, while Calvert Fitzgerald coached Premier League teams Waterhouse, Tivoli Gardens and August Town.

Both teams will be without their key strikers. The players were sent off in their respective semi-final matches at the same venue. Meadows, who beat Bodles 2-1, lose top goalscorer Ross Burton, while Rivoli who hammered Monymusk of Clarendon 4-0, lose Fidel Anderson.
