Muschett High School of Wakefield in Trelawny, captured the 2011 ISSA-KFC Western Conference female netball title in emphatic fashion at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts on Monday afternoon, when they crushed a hapless Herbert Morrison Technical 99-10 in a one-sided final.

"After the first quarter, it was clear to all that we were on course to win big," said Romaine Smith, the victorious coach. "However, we never let up and gave it all we had until the final whistle."

The game, which started some 30 minutes late as the Herbert Morrison coaching staff scrambled to put together a team against their opponents - who were already warmed up and ready - started with the Muschett team taking early control, and it was no surprise that they took the first quarter 28-2.

With captain Loretta Gordon providing the inspiration with her skilful dribbles and smart shooting, the Muschett team easily nullified the presence of Herbert Morrison's top player, Toni-Ann Reid, as they won the quarter 27-4 for a commanding 55-6 half-time lead.

The third quarter was equally depressing for the outclassed Herbert Morrison aggregation, as with Duzan McLaren partnering Gordon expertly under the hoop, the Muschett express remained unstoppable as they remained relentless, taking the third quarter 18-4.

relentless assault

With victory assured going into the final quarter, as they had a 73-10 lead, Muschett continued their relentless assault, romping the final quarter by a big 26-0 margin to leave their opponents both stunned and embarrassed.

Skipper Gordon was the undisputed star for Muschett, finishing with a game-high 39 points. McLaren supported Gordon well with 26 points, while Stacey-Ann Facey chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Reid scored four points for Herbert Morrison.

Muschett have now moved onto the national play-offs and their coach says they will be working hard in training for those matches.

"We are not going to get carried away by this result as we expect things to be a lot tougher in the all-island play-offs," said Smith. "We will celebrate today, but come tomorrow we will be back in training for our upcoming assignments against the other conference champions."
