Scotland-based Humphrey to join Reggae Boyz's Brazil camp

The Gleaner understands that Scotland-based winger Chris Humphrey has been called up by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) for their three-week camp in Brazil, ahead of this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States.

Humphrey, who was born in Jamaica and currently represents Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League, was also eligible for consideration from the Scottish FA, due to the fact that his mother was born in Kilmarnock.

It is further understood that the JFF moved quickly to get their man, amid reports that Scotland boss Craig Levein was keeping close tabs on the speedy 22 year old.

Humphrey has been attracting considerable attention on the back of impressive performances throughout the season, and played a key role in his team's advancement to this weekend's Scottish Cup final against powerhouse Celtic.

The interest didn't stop there for the former West Bromwich Albion youth product, with the likes of Liverpool, Birmingham and Bolton all said to be interested in capturing his signature.

Speaking to skysports.com, Humphrey said he is delighted with the opportunity to get his international career started and is looking forward to the experience in Brazil.

"It is a huge honour to get a call-up as every player wants to play international football," Humphrey said.

Humphrey says that while he also qualified for selection to the Scottish team, he is really happy that Jamaica was the first to offer him the chance to play international football.

"Even though I also qualify for Scotland, Jamaica was the first to pursue me and I am looking forward to linking up with the squad," Humphrey added, before pointing out that he is, however, focused on his upcoming clash with Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.

"However, at the minute my main focus is on this weekend's Scottish Cup final against Celtic," he said.

Humphrey moved to Walsall at the age of five, and was at Walsall's Centre of Excellence, until later joining West Bromwich Albion.

He joined Shrewsbury Town on a free transfer in 2006 and spent three years with the club, scoring two goals in 74 appearances.

Humphrey, who earlier this year signed a contract extension at the outfit, joined Motherwell in 2009 and started showing his worth last year, after spending the bulk of his first season on the bench.

It is not clear if Humphrey will be the only new face in the camp as members of the JFF's top brass could not be reached yesterday.

The federation is, however, expected to make some announcements soon regarding the camp and the invited players.
