CVSS to 'Swing for Charity' on golf course

In a bid to raise over $500,000 for a number of their voluntary and outreach programmes, the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS) yesterday launched the inaugural staging of their 'Swing for Charity' Golf Tournament, which will be held at Constant Spring Golf Club on May 28.
The tournament has attracted some of the island's top golfers, including Jonathan Newnham, Fabian Campbell, Maurice Foster, Freddie Sutherland and Wayne Chai Chong, who is also president of the Jamaica Golf Association.
Michelle Gaby has so far been confirmed as the only female golfer for the event.
The tournament will be played as an 18-hole Stableford competition and the entry cost for each participant is $3,500, which includes lunch and on-course refreshments throughout the day.
Lady Rheima Hall, wife of former governor general (Kenneth) and president of the CVSS, is imploring everyone to get on board and support the tournament as they seek to raise money to help the less fortunate.
"We are inviting all players and lovers of the game, along with those who simply enjoy watching the game, to give full support to this venture," said Lady Hall during yesterday's press launch, which was held at the CVSS headquarters on Camp Road.

"The CVSS envisions a Jamaica where all its citizens enjoy improved benefits and social services as a result of our cooperation and partnership to all levels," she said. "The members of CVSS are encouraged to work together, share information and use best practices in problem-solving."
Terrence 'TV' Allen, chairman of the tournament, said he is expecting a very exciting day of golf.
"The CVSS Golf Tournament is a win-win event," said Allen.
"It's a great way for people to get outdoors and enjoy a game of golf, while simultaneously helping our community," Allen added.
National Commercial Bank, The Gleaner Company Limited, Sherwin Williams, Tropical Metal Products and Key Insurance are among some of the main sponsors for the tournament.
