WICB appoints first female director

ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):

Banker Jennifer Nero has become the first woman to be appointed a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) director.

The Kittitian has been elected as a non-member director for a two-year term, having previously served as a board member for the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007.

"It is with great pleasure that I humbly accept my appointment by the board of directors of the WICB and I thank the board for affording me the privilege to serve our regional community," Nero said.

"I look forward to working with the board and hope to make a useful contribution to this prestigious regional institution."

Nero brings a strong résumé to the post, having served as managing director of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) for the last six years.

She is also a former director of internal audit of the ECCB, which she joined in 1994.

"This board of directors is honoured to now have at the highest decision-making body of West Indies cricket the counsel and advice from the critically important female perspective," WICB president Julian Hunte said.

"We welcome Mrs Nero to the board and look forward to her astute and professional contributions as we continue to work towards moving West Indies cricket forward."

Nero is an accountant by training and holds a degree in the specialty from Southeastern University in Washington, DC.

She also holds an MBA in information technology from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
