Naggo Head again

Defending champions Naggo Head are champions of the INSPORTS/Swizzle Primary Schools Track and Field Championships for a third straight year.

The Portmore-based Naggo Head ran away with the title at the National Stadium yesterday as they amassed 225 points ahead of New Providence 120. The top two were followed by Greater Portmore (108), St Catherine (92), Lawrence Lavern (91), Portsmouth (83), Waterford (80), Angels (67.5), Excelsior (63) and Belmont Park (61). Naggo Head also won the male and female sections respectively.

The Floyd Coke-coached Naggo Head took home the female section with 105 points ahead of Portsmouth (79), Greater Portmore (74), St Catherine (61) and Lawrence Lavern (49). Naggo Head took home the male title with 122 points beating New Providence (72), Belmont Park (48), Lawrence Lavern (44), Waterford (44) and Greater Portmore (35).

Coke said he was very delighted with his team's performance because they worked very hard throughout the season.

"This one is very sweet because we have a good bunch of kids and they wanted to win. The school and the parents also gave us a lot of support and this was a big part of our victory today," said Coke.

St. Francis' Jhennel Harriott who captured the girls' long jump on Friday's third day in a record 4.98m, was among the standout performers at the championships, as she returned to take the girls' Class One 200m in 27.53 seconds. Tiandra Robinson of Portsmouth was second in (27.67), followed by Shakira Stewart of Southborough (27.73).

Lusean Byfield of Angels won the boys' equivalent in a 25.33 ahead of St Francis' Damani Ellis (25.92) and Ackeem McLean of Seaview (26.00). Derrangello Ellis of Excelsior won the Class Two sprint double. She won the 100m in 13.56, beating Maria Simpson of St Catherine (13.83) and Southborough's Yushemia Burton (13.95). Ellis captured the 200m in 28.29 with Burton of Southborough (28.80) second, and Alana Jackson of Friendship, third in 29.00. Tyreke Wilson of Ensom City won the boys' Class Two 200m in 26.20, followed by Christopher Taylor of Ewarton (27.00) and Andrew Ashby of Naggo Head (27.00).
