Responses to the Sunday Gleaner story 'Sharon's flip-flop':

Time for a change

Sharon Hay-Webster, it is time to step away. Enough of this song and dance! The PNP needs to unite in order to return to Government.

Dual-citizenship issues must be resolved before the year ends, and a clear direction as to the leadership of the party must be made known.

Not her choice

The lady was born in the US. She did not swear allegiance to a foreign power by an act of her own choosing. Dual citizens can serve in our Parliament; it is the act or process by which one acquires that citizenship which determines one's eligibility.

- Bag Man

Overrun by the us

This is outrageous! She is a US citizen, but a Jamaican politician. No wonder the US can walk over the country like that. The country is being run by Americans!

A sad position for Jamaica

This woman needs to go! She is an embarrassment and should not be holding any public office in this country.

Dishonesty seems to be the MO for both these parties. This country is in a sad position.

Pack up and go!

It was bad enough that she had dual citizenship in the first place, but to try to mislead the Jamaican population is where she crossed the line. In the words of the PNP's K.D. Knight, she needs to pack her bags and GOOOOO!

Give dual citizens a chance

Maybe we should rescind the constitutional amendment put in by the PNP to prevent dual citizens from holding parliamentary seats. There are potentially, at least one million out of 3.6 million Jamaicans alive today who could hold dual citizenship. That's 28 per cent of us falling into this category. It's not fair to require the dual citizen to renounce his/her foreign citizenship. Instead, we need reforms that allow a member of parliament to be removed from office for wrongdoing.

Disrespectful

These politicians don't have any respect for the Constitution of Jamaica. If they can't obey or respect the laws that are embodied in the Constitution, how can they expect others to do the same? When politicians show this kind of blatant disregard for the Constitution, they are no different from gangs who flout the laws. Come on, Ms Hay-Webster, do the right thing - resign or renounce your US citizenship now. You can't have it both ways.
