Prodigal Son backs worthy cause
Gospel deejay Prodigal Son has come out in support of the cause, Gospel in Harmony, an event he is to perform on this Sunday.
According to the deejay, the cause is not just worthy, but the effort on the part of a private entity is one that should be emulated.
"Part proceeds from the show will be going to the Best Care Home and, honestly, government can't do everything. It is commendable that they are willing to do what they can," Prodigal Son explained.
The gospel deejay said he would be playing his part at the National Arena on Sunday by worshipping God and getting the crowd excited about Jesus.
"If you want to experience some crazy praise, then you had better make sure you come out and let's all have a grand time. There is no greater joy than just lifting up the name of Jesus," he said.
circumstances
While many know the name Prodigal Son, not so many understand the circumstances leading to it.
Born Calvin Whilby , Prodigal Son grew up in a Christian home, but lost his way after the death of his grandmother.
His sojourn into an errant way of life ended because he could not forget the foundation his grandmother laid.
Inspired by the parallels in his life, Whilby copped the name Prodigal Son and, although he had no previous secular experience in music, he soon realised he was blessed with a gift.
ministry partners
He was introduced to famed producer Danny Brownie who soon became both mentor and friend. Brownie guided Prodigal Son through his musical career and continues to be his ministry partner.
Among his many popular gospel numbers are I Wish, Head Cyaan Hot Suh, Don't Push Me, He's Jesus Christ and Journey.
On Sunday, it will not be all about Prodigal Son though, as the event will be headlined by international gospel sisters Mary Mary. Thrillers United, Kencot Youth Choir and One Voice are also expected to provide much ministry.
Among the sponsors for the event are The Gleaner Company Ltd., Television Jamaica, The Jamaica Pegasus, Jamaica National, Courts Jamaica, Love 101 and Power 106.
