Don't give up Hope!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

On a recent trip to Jamaica, I was proud to visit Hope Gardens and noticed it had not been developed into a concrete jungle nor a thoroughfare for cars. I could see where some improvements are badly needed.

This site has potential for improvement and the employment of more staff. It is still a great place where kids and families can spend quality time. I am sure that with the right emphasis on an appeal through this good paper and other media, Jamaicans would contribute to the improvement costs and not only rely on the Government to foot the bill.

With good management and forward planning, Hope Gardens could generate enough income to support its upkeep and could be a must-visit for cruise passengers and other tourists. The fortunes of Hope Gardens could turn around if the site is managed properly.

The tourist industry and the wider business community should get involved and not let others bear the financial burdens while they wait to reap the financial rewards when things are going well.

There are still lots of Jamaicans and others who visit Hope Gardens and want the best for this marvellous site.

I am, etc.,

W. SIMPSON
