The two fire breathers who lit up the entrance of the Urban Development Corporation's southern car park on Ocean Boulevard were the second thing that caught the eyes of guests of StyleWeek Jamaica 2011, as the event kicked off on Wednesday night.

The first thing was the flash of camera lights as the invited guests stepped on to the red carpet.

For the most part, guests adhered to the 'pure white tropical elegance' theme, creating a sea of white throughout the venue.

Many of those who didn't wear all white found interesting ways of mixing white with other colours.

It was more white on white as guests sat under white tents, on white chairs, around white tables.

Those guests didn't seem to mind waiting until sometime after 10 a.m. when it was time to get the show under way.

"This is a great start to StyleWeek. Welcome, thank you and get ready for the presentation in just 12 minutes," said Deiwght Peters, announcing the start of the showcase.

Interesting collections

As the models went to the pedestals, which were the presentation points from which they showcased the spring/summer 2012 accessories collection, guests looked on in much interest at the pieces from the Reve and Feri collections.

The two showcases had the attention of guests as they converged at the pedestals to either look at, touch, or take photographs of the pieces.

Five pieces from the Jamaica-based Reve collection were shown and after the models took their stylish leave, eight pieces from the Toronto, Canada-based Feri collection were displayed, but not before Peters hinted to guests that they would love the latter.

Speaking with The Gleaner, Peters said he was pleased with the event, as CityStyle succeeded in providing a vision of what downtown Kingston could be.

He also said that the on-ground execution by sponsors was also good.

"To see all the high-profile persons, the ambassadors, the business people, the socialites all out and everyone expressed shock at how we had transformed downtown on the night. Saint is very pleased to have been a part of that," he said.
