An extremely late start and the long wait during the intermission aside, Rick B's certainly brought some fire to Styleweek's International Men's Collection on Friday evening at Devon House, St Andrew.

The show that was scheduled to start at 9 p.m. did not kick off until 10:40 p.m. with the models stepping out of the antique building onto the long runway, where there were bright lights and trees all around. Strutting to the uptempo music of Stereo Massive and DJ Engine Room, the men wore outfits from Spokes Apparel.

This line had many suits that were in pastel and dark colours, as well as earth tones.

Balla Shawn, with what was described as 'urban tropical', had interesting outfits. There were ties, cardigans, vests and bomber jackets in various shades.

bringing the fire

But it was Rick B's that brought quite a bit of fire to the evening with his line called 'Code Red'. The models walked out to songs like Kirk Franklin's Revelation, Tarrus Riley's Shaka Zulu Pickney and Mavado's Pepper. All pieces had influences of red, except a black suit with a plaid under shirt and another outfit which featured a black shirt with plaid trimmings and black pants. There was much red and white, with black embroidery.

In the intermission that should have lasted 20 minutes, but went on for 45, there were people sleeping while others looked weary. However, they were renewed by the second line from Spokes Apparel.

This time around, the designer went for a more preppy look with brighter colours, cardigans, bow ties, shorts, plaids and stripes.

Much was promised from London-based Andrew Ramroop, who said he would take carnival out of the streets of Trinidad and put them on the runway. There were prints and bright colours as a prelude to the suits.

However, he did not live up to the glitz and glamour that was promised.
