Don't Shoot the Messenger
Bruce Golding wants to run the country like it's his (green) family chicken farm.
The people at North Street did not Wiki-leak. They are Wiki-writing! And Wiki-talking!

So you are blaming The Gleaner now. It is everybody else's fault except yours. Mr Golding, if you and your cohorts were honest and truthful, you wouldn't have anything to fear about these WikiLeaks cables. You and your cohorts are just cry-babies. Stand up and face the music.
- Lowboy
Mr Golding, I agree with you on this one. The Gleaner is being provocative and mischievous and seeks to raise issues that should be best left alone. Of all the cables sent by the US Embassy, are there no positive ones, ones that speak good about a person or party or organisation?
It would be sad to know that the US Embassy is only reporting the negatives. If there are positives, why is The Gleaner being selective in publishing only the dirt. We all know that dirt and trash sells more papers, but The Gleaner has a moral responsibility to its readership.

Stop spinning, PM, anyone can read WikiLeaks online. I have, and The Gleaner is reporting the cables accurately! Of course, there are unanswered questions.
I would love to know the name of the person who was the mole in Portia's Cabinet in 2006. That person fed you everything, Mr PM, according to WikiLeaks. How were your morals feeling then? As usual, you twist and spin.
- Mama-ess
I have long suspected that something fishy was going on with this WikiLeaks information. With all respect to the publisher of these documents, you need to come straight. If you are going to publish, put it all out there and let the people be the judge of it all.
You are compromising the integrity of the country's national newspaper with this bias! We need fair and balanced reporting, which is what the country's national newspaper should be doing!
- Jamaican Girl
Bruce getting hot under the collar now; note that he hasn't denied the allegations. He's just upset that The Gleaner, like any other news media entity, has reported the story.
Well done, Gleaner!
- Mr Tapper
Mr Golding, I feel your pain. Yes, shoot the messenger. People generally have the tendency to blame others when they destroy themselves. Did Mr Golding really think that once these cables were leaked, the information on the behaviour of the Jamaican political and business classes would not be made available? He sounds a little hysterical.
But he is right about one thing, though: The Gleaner must make all the original unedited cables available. Comment is one thing and JLPNP tribalists, will always claim bias.
- RAWOwater
No harassment here, Maas Bruce. The Gleaner is simply doing what it should be doing as any good investigative newspaper. Bet if the shoe were on the other foot we would not hear this charge coming from you.
The prime minister should remember when he ruled the roost and every little cough from the PNP was labelled corruption when he desperately sought power. Well, the chickens have come to roost. Deal with it without complaining.
- Wanda Woeman
Mi did tink sey the PM run tings dung a Western Kingston. But based pan weh him ah sey, dat nat true at all. When ah nuh Dudus, ah di "power brokers of North Street". Di PM clearly not large or in charge.

Why do I feel uncomfortable with Mr Golding's tone here? Does he not realise that his, his party's, and the current Government's association with recently extradited citizens is still fresh in the Jamaican people's minds?
His statement Sunday reads like an implicit admission that Jamaica's political landscape doesn't work by 'one person, one vote'. It reads like a call to arms on the ground. It reads like thinly veiled declarations that the era of the enforcer is about to re-emerge.
I guess when you have no basis on which to attack the message, you turn on the messenger.
- John Smith
Bruce should have maintained the Government's position on the WikiLeaks cables of not commenting on them. But he never misses an opportunity to stuff his foot into his mouth.
The gangsters of Gordon House need to realise that the whole world is changing. People need to know what their governments are doing, Transparency is the new world order.
- Big Stout
I was disappointed that Mr Golding chose to take on The Gleaner. The truth is, whenever a politician takes on the media, it's really political suicide, because media have power.
However, I could not say I disagree with the PM. Something looks sinister here.
Regarding the cable about Mrs Simpson Miller having some close ally with criminal or corrupt links, I had commented that I really didn't get the point of publishing these cables. I don't see any useful purpose being served.
What is The Gleaner's objective? News? It doesn't seem so to me.
