Farewell, Col MacMillan

Published:Thursday | June 2, 2011 | 12:00 AM

We note with sadness the death of Colonel Trevor MacMillan, the former Jamaica Defence Force officer who later became commissioner of police and served briefly as national security minister in Prime Minister Bruce Golding's Cabinet.

Col MacMillan was a man of personal integrity who was committed to human rights and the dignity of individuals - traits which he brought to the constabulary when he became its head in the early 1990s.

Indeed, we believe that he can, and should, be properly credited with starting the process of reforming the constabulary, which had grown seriously corrupt.
