Warner promises to release email

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Suspended CONCACAF president Austin 'Jack' Warner says he will release an email sent to FIFA President Sepp Blatter, detailing what took place at last month's controversial meeting, that has become the centre of a corruption probe.

Warner and former FIFA presidential candidate, Mohamed bin Hammam, have been accused of offering US$40,000 to national associations of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) at a meeting here on May 10 and 11, in return for their votes in the FIFA presidential election last Wednesday.

Both have been suspended from footballing activities within FIFA, pending an investigation.

"The email I sent to Mr Blatter after the meeting in Port-of-Spain is crystal clear and tells you, of course, what happened at the meeting and what, of course, transpired," he told hundreds of supporters on his return from Zurich on Thursday night.

"And that email from me went to FIFA - (it) has never been made public and Sunday it will be (made public) - (told) Mr Blatter what transpired in the meeting.

"You can take it or leave it ... but you must know because that email will put all this here to rest. And that email went to him at 12:36 and the meeting finished at 12 noon."

He told reporters that the accusations against him were also directed against the wider Caribbean football fraternity.

"This thing is not so much against Jack Warner. This is a matter against the Caribbean," he contended.

"What they have done is to accuse the entire Caribbean of being dishonest, what they have done is to tell the entire Caribbean that they are capable of being bribed, what they have done has affected Caribbean integration in football in the Caribbean.

"So it's not Jack Warner alone, it's bigger than Jack Warner."
