FEEDBACK

Published:Friday | June 10, 2011 | 12:00 AM

Excerpted feedback from online readers to yesterday's lead story 'Weak Portia':

Fresh blood, new blood needed

To be honest, neither Portia Simpson Miller nor Bruce Golding have any idea what it takes to run the country! Unless they gather fresh blood with new ideas and a different approach to what the country has been getting for the last two decades, I see nothing being achieved by either party for some time to come.

What answers?

Still not comfortable with the US Embassy's intrusion into our politics, but I think the cable hit the nail on the head. So many simple oversights and matters that should have been handled better suggest Sister P is in over her head. The rest of the party can't be far off, because if they knew better they should have advised her. They can talk all they want, but cannot convince me that after 18 years, they suddenly have all the answers.

No skills

Neither Mrs Simpson Miller or Mr Golding have the business administration skills which are profoundly need to improve the situation in Jamaica. Why would one buy a new tyre and put it on a rim which is bent and expect good driving result? I see Simpson Miller and Golding as the defective rim.

Personality vs leadership

No one can deny that Mrs Simpson Miller is a likeable person, always pitching a sympathetic tone, but clearly there are questions about her leadership credentials. She is most comfortable when addressing the party faithful. On the rare occasion when she is giving a press conference, it is so painful to watch her trying to explain her points. For the sake of the party, I hope someone will challenge her for the leadership.

Step aside now!

Portia Simpson was over her head, but this time around she will be drowning unless Bruce does the right thing and resign and allow another member in the JLP to lead the country in the next election. Portia was an embarrassment as a leader of a country and under her leadership again, nothing will change.

I take that back, because Peter Phillips and Omar Davies will be running things while Sister P will be prime minister in name only.
