Advanced Level I Coaching Course
The JMMB/JFF/UTech Advanced Level I Coaching Course continued yesterday with its third session at the University of Technology Jamaica.
Classes are held on Fridays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m; on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lecture Theatre No. 4, The Faculty of the Built Environment, UTech.
Topics to be covered this weekend are communication, sports nutrition, sports medicine, the female athlete and a presentation done by Jamaica Anti-doping Commission (JADCO).
This ninth round of the JMMB/JFF/UTech Advanced Level I Course has a total of 21 coaches participating. This list includes coaches mainly from a number of high schools, including Ardenne High, Campion College, Black River High and Paul Bogle High. Coach of the recently Digicel Premier League promoted Eastern Confederation-based club, Highgate FC, Calvin Lewis, is also a participant, as well as coaches from a number of community-based clubs.
The Advanced Level I Courses are held under the sponsorship of JMMB in partnership with UTech.
Lady Strikers on top in skittles
Mystix Lady Strikers, the all-female team, defeated Mercury 7-4 in the fifth round of the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum skitlles competition at Padmore Drive last Sunday, to be joint leaders of Zone B in this their first season of competition.
Lady Strikers lead with eight points, representing four wins and a loss, the same as Willies Strikers, who defeated high-riding Mister C from Spanish Town 7-4 at Hughenden Plaza.
In other matches played last Sunday, Starliner clipped defending champions Eagles 6-5 at Hughenden Plaza after both teams were locked at 5-5 after 10 games. However, ranking player Winston 'Jubby' Nevins from Starliner defeated Rudolph 'Niah' Mullings in the deciding game, enabling Starliner to lead Zone A with eight points (four wins, one defeat).
Meanwhile, at Dragon Skittles Club, Giltress Street in Rollington Town, Eastern All-Stars crushed Dragon 9-2 in their 'Battle of the East' clash, while Waltham Strikers defeated Mystix 7-4 in the other match at the same venue.
The competition continues tomorrow with the third Super Sunday promotion, where all participating teams will play their scheduled matches at Olympic Strikers Skittles Club.
The matches on are as follows: Zone A - Starliner vs Dragon at 1 p.m., followed by Eagles vs Waltham Strikers and Mystix vs Rowe's Strikers.
In Zone B - Mystix Lady Strikers will oppose Mister C at 1 p.m., followed by Mercury vs Portmore's The Dip and Olympic Strikers vs Willies Strikers.
Wray & Nephew teampool tourney kicks off
As the Jamaica Billiards Association Wray & Nephew Limited/White Overproof-sponsored 5-a-side team pool tournament commenced last Saturday across the island at Mystix, Hagley Park Road, Hot Shots Fury clipped Bombay 3-2 in the most exciting mach at the venue.
Hot Shots Fury owed their victory to ranking female players Nicky Lawrence, the Jamaica Billiards Association president, and Francine Cardoza. With both teams locked at 2-2 going into the crucial fifth game, Cardoza beat her opponent quite easily to secure the win for her team.
In the other matches played at Mystix Sports Bar on Saturday, Mystix Imports drubbed Hot Shots 4-1, Chelsea Seals clipped Mystix Knights 3-2, while in a rescheduled match played on Tuesday, Invaders defeated Gee Wee 4-1 in Papine.
In the rural groupings, Gold Room beat Club 300 'A' 4-1 in Savanna-la-mar, Montego Bay Proper 'B' pipped Marshals 3-2 at MoBay Proper, 44 Fort Street in MoBay, Kendon beat Club 300 'B' at Jarrett Street in MoBay, The Spot clipped Strawberry 3-2 in Old Harbour, while Upper Level also beat Georges 3-2 in a home match in Mandeville
The match between MoBay Proper 'A' and Palm Court from Negril ended prematurely in a dispute. This match will be rescheduled on June 19.
At Saturday's launch it was announced by Wray & Nephew brand manager Dominic Beckford that the winning team would receive $250,0000 and the runner-up $100,000.
The competition continues today with 10 matches scheduled.
Petrojam unbeatenin BH football
Defending Division I champions Petrojam made it three wins from as many starts in the KSAFA/ Western Sports Business House football competition last Saturday, thanks to a 3-1 victory over Wray & Nephew at Tinson Pen.
Getting among the goals were the Stultz brothers David and Nigel. In another Division I match played last Saturday at Bull Pen, former champions Scotiabank blanked Norman Manley International Airport (NWIA) with a brace from Richard West and the third goal from Nicholas McCreath.
Knockout champions Wisynco beat NWC 2-0, thanks to a double strike from Girvan Brown, while UWI and Norman Manley International Airport drew 1-1 at UWI Bowl on Wednesday. Everton Mattis sent NWIA ahead in the 30th minute, but this was cancelled out by Cornel Cain's equaliser in the 73rd minute.
Former champions Gleaner Company are yet to make a start to the competition. Their feature Division I clash against former champions Carib Cement on Wednesday had to be postponed due to a waterlogged field at Winchester Park. Gleaner Company will bow in on Wednesday, June 15 against NWC at Great House Boulevard.
In Division II action, Grace Kennedy clipped ISCF 3-2, while Red Stripe drubbed NCB 3-0, thanks to a brace from Tyrone Crossfield.
Tank-Weld win JustBet BH opener
Defending champions Tank-Weld Metals blanked NWC 3-0 in the opening match of the JustBet Business House 5-a-side football competition at the NWC playing field last Saturday to establish themselves as firm favourites to retain the trophy.
Significantly, Tank-Weld Metals got their goals from three players with Premier League experience - Andre Clennon, Vincent Earle and Jermaine Grey.
Sponsors Supreme Ventures Limited has contributed $850,000 to the competition, while Honey Bun has put up $350,000.
Ken's to defend U-15 cricket crown
Ken's Wildflower will start the defence of their title with a match against debutants Portmore Pines

Wanderers favoured to win in semis
Wanderers are highly favoured to win their semi-final match against Garveymeade
In the feature game at 3 p.m. Waterford oppose Cumberland.
Wanderers should start favourites for the first game, as they hammered Garveymeade 5-0 in a preliminary-round game. Coach of Wanderers, Jason Grant, believes that it will not be so easy this time around. "We defeated them (Garveymeade) 5-0 in our last meeting. however, I don't think it will be so easy this time around as Garveymeade know the way we play and will try and improve on their last performance," Grant said. Prolific striker Christopher Campbell, with 12 goals from six matches, will be a handful for the Garveymeade defenders. Alex Marshall will also be gunning to add to his six goals thus far. Garveymeade will pin their hopes on Bridgeport Primary star Mario Salesman.
Meanwhile, Clifton, who qualified for the semi-finals, were expelled from the competition for using an ineligible player.
Portmore United aim at second win
Defending champs Portmore United should shoot past Garveymeade and win their second game in two tries at the Portsmouth field tomorrow in the feature match of double-header in the Colin Fagan-sponsored Portmore U-15 Football League at 3 p.m.
In the curtain-raiser at 1 p.m. at the venue, Wanderers square off with Cumberland.
At the Passagefort field, it is Portsmouth versus Westchester in the 3 p.m. feature match. In the second match at the venue, Clifton battle Daytona. Games scheduled for last week were washed out because of the inclement weather.

Caribbean Classic won the title at Caymanas Park two weeks ago with a 300-292 victory over Old Braeton-based Eagle View, while last year's champions Fort International took third spot with a 300-264 win over Right Stuff.
AmCham Bobcat Golf Classic launched
The inaugural American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Bobcat Golf Classic was launched on Thursday at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston. Part proceeds from the golf classic will be used to help fund the activities of two charities. They are Kind Hearts and Grant's Pen Foundation.
David Mais, the tournament director, indicated that it will be held on Sunday, June 26 at the Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine. The format will be a Stableford and will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. A full field is expected to compete for top honours, led by last year's winner Bert Tomlinson. Already there are three entries that have come in by way of online registration, and the feeling on the ground is that it will get good participation from the golfing community.
Marjorie Boroughs of Stewart's Industrial announced that title sponsor Bobcat will sponsor the tournament in the amount of $1 million.
Diana Stewart, president of the American Chamber of Commerce, who spoke about the chamber's work with the two charities, also announced the donation of $100,000 to the In The City Golf programme.
Executive director of the chamber, Becky Stockhausen, spoke about the work of the chamber in Jamaica and its positive impact, and mentioned the reduction of hostilities in Grants Pen as a result of the chamber's work in the area.
Additionally, she announced that there will be a media putting competition as part of the tournament's activities.
Bobcat, the title sponsor, is a member of the Stewart's Automotive Group.
