THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is just over a week away, but I would like to propose to the JAAA that it immediately set up as a pay-per-view event, outside Jamaica, both 100m events at the upcoming SVL National Senior Championships.

I assume that they will run consecutively. These events, among others, are being eagerly anticipated the world over and promise to be more competitive - at least on the men's side - than the actual event at the upcoming World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

The 100m for men can be expected to include no less than six participants, not including Usain Bolt, who have gone below 10 seconds this season. They are Asafa Powell, Steve Mullings, Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Nickel Ashmeade. It should also be noted that four of these have personal bests below 9.9s, and the rest of the line-up will have persons bordering on 10s flat.

I cannot recall any 100m event at any national trials that has assembled such talent, and could easily be a big seller as a pay-per-view event at a reasonable fee with good promotion.

I would not propose the kind of fee that a major heavyweight fight would attract, but one which could bring in some much-needed dollars into the local programme.

There are other events that are worthwhile, but that would have to be decided based on the logistics, a short time frame and other market considerations. The JAAA must act now.
