I'm not worried about form - Williams

ONE of the country's most consistent female quarter-miler in the past several years, Shericka Williams, will be hoping for a top-three finish in the women's 400 metres at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships this weekend at the National Stadium.

Williams, the former St Elizabeth Technical athlete, despite an average season so far, is not too worried about her present form where she has a season best of 51.53 seconds to be the fifth-ranked Jamaican in the event going into the National Championships.

The very experienced Williams, who won silver medals in the individual event at the Beijing Olympic Games and the Berlin World Championships, is not concerned about her low ranking in the event.

"This year my preparation is different as normally this time of the year I would have competed in at least three races already, but my coach is doing something different and he knows best," said Williams, before stating that she is not overly concerned about her form.

"It is a long season and I am not worried about what is happening now, as all I have to do is to finish in the top three at the National Championships for individual slot in Daegu and I am pretty confident that I will.

"It is a long time I have not won a national title and this is added motivation for me," she said.

Williams' confidence can easily be justified as this season no Jamaican female quarter-miler has taken the event by storm with national champion Novlene Williams-Mills, who herself had some injury concerns, is the leader of the event with 50.71 seconds. With a personal best of 49.32 seconds in the event, if Williams reports to the National Senior Championships at even 70 per cent, she could do major damage and take the big prize.
