RE: The editorial titled 'We welcome Rowe's apology, not the honour', June 21
I am sure Lawrence Rowe's apology to Jamaicans and South African black leaders and people would be accepted, but to honour him as a Jamaican hero is way off base.
The new Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) board should seriously contemplate how the Rebel Tours reflected on us at the time and how betrayed the South African blacks felt.
The board should take a serious look at the names mentioned in this editorial and spend a few minutes of silence and reflection at their next meeting.

I think this Lawrence Rowe oversight is a tempest in a teapot. Didn't Mandela become president? So, what's the point? Plus, if Mr Mandela met Rowe, it would be with a hearty handshake and a smile.
Let us learn from these things and may they never happen again. The man said sorry, and that is good for me. During his time, Lawrence was like no other, so I agree with naming something after him. Now, let's move on to better things.

While I found his actions then reprehensible, the man's apology should be accepted! So many dubious characters have been given national honours, and I am yet to see an editorial challenging these! Yagga's talent was unquestionable. Check yu closet before yu judge!

Excellent points all, especially your suggestions that there are others more worthy. I entirely agree. The JCA must be joking.

Let him that is without sin cast the first stone. The man was honoured for his exploits in cricket, nothing else. We are a bunch of hypocrites, because we have no problem with our corrupt politicians being called 'Honourable' and 'Most Honourable'. If healing is to take place, forgiveness must be high on our agenda.

Who are the fools who would believe this apology was sincere? It is cheap and meaningless. For things like this to have happened is an indication of the low standard that exists in Jamaica.
Rowe made a decision, and greed was his obvious motive. There are baseball players who have been banned from the Hall of fame for indiscretions.
