Roadshows then Girls fly out

The Sunshine Girls along with the management team and the coaches drove out of the netball hostel at approximately 8:30 a.m. yesterday enroute to Singapore for the World Netball Championship to be held July 3-10.

They made several stops along the way to the Sangster Inter-national Airport in Montego Bay where they flew out on British Airways. Best Dressed Chicken sponsored the team's roadshows from Kingston to Montego Bay with stops at Mandela Park in Half-Way Tree, Ewarton in St Catherine and Priory in St Ann. The final activity was a reception and send-off at the airport.

President of the Jamaica Netball Association, Marva Bernard, was happy to be leaving and was full of hope and high expectation that the Sunshine Girls will still be standing on the night of the final on July 9. She said that the team had worked hard to prepare for this world champs. She expressed thanks to all who played a role to get the team this far. She singled out Best Dressed Chicken, the newest team sponsor; Digicel, long-time team sponsor, and Gilbert, the kit sponsor.

Oberon Pitterson, head coach, indicated that she expected "something from the podium. They are confident, they are very focused and they are very excited to get out there. They are capable of carrying Jamaica on their backs and they are gonna do that. I know when they look back they are gonna say 'no man we haffi get this done'".

The captain Nadine Bryan was excited to get going. She said: "We are very excited, we are rearing to go. Our expectation is to be playing in the final, to come out on top. We are ready for it. Physically and mentally we are ready, I guess that's why I think that we can come out on top and that's what we are aiming for."

The match days for the Sunshine Girls are July 3, 4 and 5. The quarter-finals are scheduled for July 7 with the semi-finals on July 8 and the final on July 9.
