Re yesterday's lead story, 'Give us the Queen':

It is an indictment on Jamaica's post-Independence political leadership that such a large percentage should yearn for colonisation in this day and age when peoples the world over are dying for self-determination.

The sad reality is that regardless of the colour of their banner, most are all the same on the inside - greedy and corrupt. Jamaica will never lift itself up from its so-called Third World status until it rids itself of mediocre government, whether PNP or JLP.

Sadly, most Jamaicans seem prepared to embrace a paternalistic system, similar to slavery, which required Massa to provide a bit of food, clothing and shelter for the masses, who lived like swine and mules.

It is blasted silly to bow to a family which, for centuries, encouraged the enslavement of millions of people of African descent and stealing of their resources. What of our pride and dignity?

- Marcus Garvey II

The problem really is that since Independence, Jamaica did not rise like a bird but rather started sinking like a boat with a big leak. Other former colonies prospered and continue to do so. Why can't we?

The monarchy should have been replaced on August 6, 1962. Why should anyone need a visa if he or she wants to go where his/her head of state reside?

Jamaica is worse off now that it was 50 years ago. I wish my dead dad could come back from the grave so that my brothers and I could apologise to the visionary old man who used to tell us boys that it was just a matter of time and Jamaicans would see the mistake they were making in becoming independent.
