Wynter gives Jamaica another gold

Timothy Wynter gave Jamaica their second gold medal on Friday evening at the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Champion-ships (CCCAN) in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, when he won the 13-14 boys' 200 metres backstroke in a record time of 2:09.55.

The time erased the old CCCAN mark of 2:11.32 and was also an improvement on his own national age-group record of 2:14.76 and the national senior record of 2:09.65, set by Andrew Phillips in 1984.

Wynter also won the 13-14 boys' 50m backstroke on Wednesday in record time (26.96).

Wynter, Kevaughn Campbell, Sidrell Williams and Antoine Young won silver in 4:11.84 in the medley relay. The time is also a new national age-group record, eclipsing the time of 4:12.74 set by this same team at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships earlier this year.

Breanna Roman missed out on what would have been her second medal at the CCCAN, when she finished fourth in the 15-17 girls' 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:18.04.

Breann Campbell placed fourth in the 12 & under synchronised solo competition. She scored 54.234 - 27.234 in Figures and 27.000 in the Free Routine.

Jamaica's medal haul at press time at the CCCAN now stands at 11.

Other finalists on Friday were Matthew Chen in the 15-17 boys' 100m breaststroke, whose time of 1:10.50 was only good enough for seventh, and Dominic Walter, who finished sixth in both the 18 and over boys' 400m freestyle (4:19:00) and 400m individual medley (5:02.55).
