The Friends of Devon House threw a fabulous Midsummer Magic Under the Stars dinner and auction at the historic edifice on Thursday, June 30. The purpose of the lavish five-course meal was to provide much-needed funds for the venue's upkeep. By all accounts, it was a success and a much-needed one, with rumours swirling that the beloved property could fall into private hands. We hope this never happens.

Committee members were kept busy hosting guests who bore the lengthy cocktail session under humid skies. Thankfully, the air-conditioned tent superbly styled by Ann-Marie Weiss, cooled things down. The formalities were expertly chaired by the affable north coast hotelier Brian Roper, who proved an equally entertaining auctioneer.

The pieces of art and décor were all donated, and chef extraordinaire Mario Machado prepared a feast fit for kings. Here are the menu offerings.
