Sunshine Girls ready for T&T

NEWTON, Singapore:
HAVING brushed aside their preliminary-round rivals easily, the Sunshine Girls are looking to clear their next hurdle into the finals, when they take on Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago at the Mission Foods World Netball Championships (WNC) at the Singapore National Stadium tomorrow morning, beginning at 7:00.
After thrashing host nation Singapore 93-40 yesterday, Oberon Pitterson, Jamaica's head coach, said her players are anxiously awaiting the clash against their Caribbean rivals.
"It is a Caribbean rivalry and I am sure that Trinidad (and Tobago) will be coming out hard, but (we) are going to do the same too because it is the play-offs, and we definitely have to step it up a notch, and we are looking forward it," said Pitterson.
Jamaica topped their WNC Pool C, after also registering lopsided wins against South Africa (72-45) and Botswana (74-23) in earlier matches.
'GOING FOR THE WIN'
Trinidad and Tobago, for their part, were outclassed 75-23 by New Zealand in their final Pool B match yesterday.
However, earlier wins against Wales (51-48) and Fiji (58-40) ensured the Trinidadians the runner-up spot in the group.
The Jamaicans should enter the all-Caribbean contest full of confidence, after thrashing the Trini-dadians 3-0 in their last meeting.
Reflecting on that tri-Test series that took place in Kingston earlier this year, Pitterson said both teams had improved.
"There is no doubt they have improved since we played them, and we have improved too, because when we played them we were doing trials and we had a lot of players," she said.
"I think it is going to be a bit different, but I am sure that Jamaica have the edge, and it is a quarter-final so we are going for the win," Pitterson stated.
