A REAR-VIEW GLANCE
The following is your feedback to a series of lead stories published in the Automotives section.
Oh, Scrap!
Vandals, believed to be involved in the illegal scrap-metal trade, continue to plunder government ferrous throughout the country, with Kingston and St Andrew being the most affected areas.

Harmful trade
This scrap-metal trade is doing more harm than good. What will it take for the government to see that it needs to put a permanent halt to this farce?

Scrap Jamaica
If the scrap-metal trade steals bridge railings and fire hydrants, CCTV is fair game.
The problem is standards. The Government has very little - Gangs on Trucks and Gangs in Gordon House. It is all the same.
Both do the same - Scrap Jamaica.
- Glenn Smith
Solutions
There are two solutions to stop the plundering of the nation's infrastructure by scrap-metal criminals.
The government can either stop the trade completely or become the primary purchaser of scrap metal before it is sold to the international buyer. This I hope, barring corruption, should put a brake on the behaviour of these degenerated miscreants who continue to plunder the island's infrastructure with total disregard for the consequence.

PUMP PAINS
Trevor Heaven, president of the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA), say motorists may soon pay for air at service stations.
Publication date: June 19, 2011
Loss of revenue
Well, if we paying for bottled water, why not pay for compressed air? I always thought that it was stupid to give free air at gas stations. This is a loss of revenue, as it requires electricity to produce it.

HEAVEN CAN WAIT
I don't think gas stations are to charge for air. They [service station operators] should at least ensure the service is consistent before contemplating charging.

SHOP AROUND
I don't think all service stations would warm up to charging for air. Therefore, you would have to shop around to find those that don't, and spend your money there.

PORTABLE AIR PUMP
Buy a cheap, portable air pump and travel around with it like you would do your spare wheel. Problem solved.

NEGRIL BOUND
Come October, Knutsford Express - cross-country, luxury bus service - intends to add tourist destination Negril to its daily roster.
Publication date: July 3, 2011
Great idea
I think bus service is a great idea. Why didn't I think of this? I'm a Jamaican living in the US and I'm always thinking of ways to improve life in Jamaica. We have the potential and the resource and need to put it to good use. Kudos to Mr Oliver Townsend.

Game changer
Talk about game changer and making the best use of the opportunities available, this is it.
I had someone who used this recently and who commented on the quality of service offered.
Was so much cheaper than renting a car or taking a taxi, $2,250 works out to be less than US$30.

Surveillance cameras
I would like the providers to take the security to another level and instal surveillance cameras in every bus.
I know some passengers can become unruly. So, the camera would capture evidence that you can use for prosecution.
Good luck.
