Campbell belts ton as U19s win

BROWARD COUNTY, Florida:

West Indies Under-19 captain Kraigg Brathwaite and fellow opener John Campbell blasted tons in the first two games of their four-match tour of the United States.

In the first match at the Broward County Cricket Stadium on Saturday (rescheduled from Friday after a wash-out), Brathwaite struck a commanding, unbeaten 122, as he led his side to 278 for eight from 50 overs.

In response, the USA Under-19s could only muster 63 all out from 29 overs, as Kyle Mayers was the main destroyer with five wickets for 17 from six overs.

Donovan Nelson picked up two wickets, while there was one apiece for Justin Greaves, Jerome Jones and Derone Davis, as the Windies won by a crushing 215- run margin.

In the second match on Sunday, the 17-year-old, left-handed Campbell made a bruising 154 from 134 balls, with nine fours and six maximums as he decimated the American bowling attack.

Braithwaite followed up his century with 53 (75 balls, 1x4) and Ramon Senior hit 42 from 44 balls with a pair of fours and sixes.

The USA Under-19s again collapsed for a low total, handing the Windes Under-19s a 268-run triumph.

Highest contribution

USA's Under-19 made a paltry 71 from 28.1 overs, with no batsman reaching double figures. Extras again accounted for the highest contribution, with 20 (14 wides, six leg byes).

Mayers continued his fine form, picking up three wickets for 13 from seven overs. Kavem Hodge got two for 14, while there was a wicket apiece for Donovan Nelson (one for four) and Ronsford Beaton (one for 22).

The West Indies and USA's Under-19 teams will play two more matches - one today and the next on Thursday, also at the Broward County Cricket Stadium.

The tour is part of the West Indies' preparations for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 World Cup in Australia, in 2012.
