Kinloss, Invaders set to clash in final

Mid-season champions Kinloss and former parish champions Invaders drew first blood in the semi-finals of the 2010/11 Trelawny National Rums of Jamaica Major League football competition, when they both emerged victorious in Sunday's first-leg games against Granville and Flames, respectively.

In their game against Granville on their home turf at the Kinloss Community Centre, the Kinloss team was in dominant form, coming away with an impressive 5-1 win.

Invaders were a bit more circumspect in outscoring Flames 4-2 in their game in Bunkers Hill.

"While Invaders and Kinloss have both taken big first-leg leads, I am still expecting the second-leg games to be quite exciting, as I don't expect Flames and Granville to just give up without a fight," said Marline Brown, the competition's coordinator. "I am expecting two exciting games."

In their game against Granville, the team they defeated in the competition's mid-season final, Kinloss dominated the early action and took the lead when the prolific Ronique Haynes crashed home from close range in the second minute, making the score 1-0.

Granville countered almost immediately when Larone Clarke fired in a fourth-minute equaliser, making the score 1-1.

However, Granville's joy was short-lived as Glendon Guy struck in the 10th minute, making the score 2-1.

With time running out in the half, the free-flowing Kinloss gave themselves a two-goal advantage when Gareth Bent found space in the Granville defence and fired home in the 40th minute, making the half-time score 3-1.

Kinloss solidified their dominance in the second half and created a major cushion with another two goals, giving themselves a four-goal advantage going into tomorrow's second-leg game. Haynes snatched his second goal in the 60th minute and Wayne Waldo sealed the issue in the 71st minute, making the final score 5-1.

In their game against Flames, Invaders took the lead in the 10th minute when Paul Hardy struck to make the score 1-0.

The lead was quickly erased when Navado Williams pulled Flames level with a 12th-minute strike.

Flames took the lead in the 20th minute when Shermiah Gallimore scored to make the score 2-1.

However, with time running out in the half, Omar Williams pulled Invaders back on level terms when he scored in the 42nd minute, making the half-time score 2-2.

Invaders dominated the second half and secured victory through goals from Williams in the 60th minute and Henry in the 81st, giving themselves a two-goal advantage going into the second-leg game.
